Motorcyclist banned after dangerous Melksham ride
Jamie Van Dyke sentenced for reckless driving through public area
A 25-year-old motorcyclist, Jamie Van Dyke from Singers Knoll, Frome, has been disqualified from driving for two years following a pursuit in Melksham.
Van Dyke failed to stop for officers last August after allegedly riding in an erratic manner and weaving through a public area at high speeds.
He reportedly went off-road near Waitrose across King George V park before being lost to sight.
Following further enquiries, Van Dyke was identified, interviewed, and charged.
He appeared in Salisbury Magistrates Court today, where he pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, driving without a licence, and driving without insurance.
Van Dyke has been given an 18-month community order and must complete 150 hours of unpaid work.
He is also required to pay £85 in costs and a £114 victim surcharge.
PC Ben Greening of the Roads Policing Unit said: “Van Dyke’s standard of driving fell well below the standard of a competent motorcyclist and his actions put innocent road users as well as pedestrians at risk of harm. With this in mind, I am pleased he has been disqualified from driving.
“We are committed to targeting road users like Van Dyke who show no respect for others and totally underestimate the devastation their behaviour could potentially cause.”
