Plans for thousands more solar panels at MOD Lyneham have taken another step forward after Wiltshire Council signed off part of the detailed requirements attached to the scheme.

The project involves installing 3,582 solar panels on a 3.6-hectare site, aimed at supporting the new technical training school and accommodation at the military base. The solar array itself would cover 2.5 hectares and supply power locally.

Under the scheme, vegetation management and drainage plans have been outlined to mitigate erosion and promote biodiversity. These measures will involve regular inspections and maintenance of ground cover to ensure effective stormwater management.

Wiltshire Council has issued a "partial discharge of conditions," allowing the plans to move forward except where conditions still need further completion.

The MOD Lyneham base currently accommodates 269,000 solar panels powering the National Grid, with the new project complementing existing sustainable energy efforts.
