A 36-year-old man has been sentenced to two years in prison at Swindon Crown Court after pleading guilty to causing actual bodily harm (ABH).

The court heard that on 13th February, Jason Povey, of no fixed address, went to the woman's home in Trowbridge.

When she didn't answer, he broke in through the back garden.

The woman, suspecting Povey was intoxicated, attempted to drive him to a relative's house but was assaulted while driving.

Povey struck her face repeatedly.

Once she exited the vehicle, he continued his assault, attempting to stamp on her head.

She narrowly avoided further harm by moving in time but was punched several times.

Crime investigator Ben Hillier commented on the violent attack, describing Povey's actions as those of a "coward".

Hillier said, “Povey is a coward who launched a violent attack on the woman, leaving her with extremely painful facial injuries and fearing for her life.

It was fortunate that the victim was able to run to a place of safety that Povey’s attack came to an end, otherwise, it just does not bear thinking about how this assault could have ended.”

He further condemned the level of violence used by Povey, welcoming the custodial sentence and the accompanying 10-year restraining order.
