A 53-year-old man has been jailed after attacking staff at a Salisbury pub.

David Strain, from Ashley Avenue, Belfast, pleaded guilty to two counts of assault by beating and intentional strangulation following an incident at the Bridge Tap pub on 23rd October 2025.

Salisbury Crown Court heard how Strain was being ejected from the pub on Fisherton Street due to his behavior when he grabbed a staff member by the throat and assaulted others trying to help.

Strain was abusive towards police officers upon arrest and required restraining.

PC Mat Jacob said: “We take violence against anyone, whether members of the public or staff working at licensed premises extremely seriously.

“It will never be tolerated.

“Our team of officers is committed to acting quickly and decisively to protect our communities and ensure offenders are held accountable.”

Alongside his 12-month prison sentence, Strain has been banned from The Bridge Tap for two years and ordered to pay a £187 surcharge.
