A man has been jailed for 14 months after leading police on a lengthy pursuit across North Wiltshire.

Jason Maddocks, 36, from Portmead Place, Blaenymaes, Swansea, was convicted of failing to stop, dangerous driving, driving while over the prescribed drug limit, criminal damage, and possession of class A drugs.

The incident occurred on 1st October 2024 after police attempted to stop Maddocks’ vehicle in Corsham.

Officers suspected a vulnerable missing person from the South Wales area was inside the vehicle.

The vehicle was located by a officer travelling through the Chippenham area but it failed to stop.

A lengthy pursuit ensued around Yatton Keynell, Castle Combe and Acton Turville areas before heading back on the M4 towards Chippenham, eventually coming to a stop in Hullavington airfield having caused extensive damage to multiple vehicles.

Maddocks was arrested on suspicion of multiple offences and cocaine was located inside the vehicle.

The missing person was also located and taken to a place of safety.

He appeared at Swansea Crown Court on Friday (14/11) and was sentenced to 14 months imprisonment and given a three year and seven month driving disqualification.

PC Nick Slade said: “This was a lengthy pursuit around several villages north of Chippenham – these are rural roads through villages where there could have been children crossing, cyclists and horse riders using the roads, yet Maddocks showed absolutely no regard for anyone else’s safety and was determined to flee from police.

"In doing so, he drove at excess speed, at times towards oncoming traffic, and even doing 100mph along the hard shoulder.

"This is totally unacceptable, and combined with such a disregard for others, he truly deserved to feel the full force of the law. I am glad he has been given a custodial sentence as well as a lengthy driving disqualification so he no longer poses a danger to road users.”
