A man in his 70s has died following a crash near Purton.

Police say a Honda scooter travelling southbound on the B4553 near Down Farm collided head on with a Ford Focus travelling in the opposite direction yesterday morning.

Officers are investigating.

In a statement, Wiltshire Police said: "A man has sadly died following a collision on the B4553 near Purton yesterday morning (02/09).

"At around 11.20am, a Honda WW 125 scooter travelling southbound near Down Farm collided head on with a Ford Focus travelling in the opposite direction.

"The rider of the Honda, a man in his 70s, was sadly declared dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed and our thoughts are with them at this tragic time.

"The driver of the Ford, a woman in her 40s, was uninjured.

"No arrests were made.

"A road closure was put in place to allow enquiries to be carried out and has now been lifted.

"Any witnesses to the collision or anyone who may have dash cam are asked to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Team on 01225 694597 quoting Log number 0107.
