Man arrested after 47-mile police chase
A 20-year-old man remains in custody for questioning, following the pursuit which ended on the M3 in Hampshire
A Salisbury man has been arrested following a 47 -mile police pursuit which ended at a services on the M3 in Hampshire when he ran out of fuel.
At around 11:05pm last night (December 9) officers from the Roads Policing Unit and Salisbury Community Policing Team attempted to stop a vehicle in Salisbury city centre after concerns it was being driven on cloned plates.
Wiltshire Police say the vehicle failed to stop, leading officers on a pursuit which lasted approximately 30 minutes.
The force added that the vehicle was driven at speed through Laverstock onto the A30 and A343 before having a near miss just past Lopcombe, and then onto the A303.
Working jointly with Hampshire’s Roads Policing Unit, the pursuit ended at Fleet Services on the M3, when the suspect's vehicle ran out of fuel.
A 20-year-old man from Salisbury was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, driving otherwise than in accordance with a driving licence, driving with no insurance and drug driving.
Police say he remains in Melksham custody for questioning and enquires are continuing.
