Longleat has shared a behind-the-scenes video of its newest red panda cub having his first health check, to mark International Red Panda Day.

The male cub was born earlier this year to experienced mum Emma and first-time dad Koda. Keepers say the two-month-old is doing well, following a check with the park’s vet.

He has not been named yet, although keepers hope to announce a name in the coming weeks. As he grows, the cub will have regular weigh-ins and health checks to make sure he is developing as expected.

Red pandas are an endangered species, with around two thousand five hundred believed to be left in the wild. Longleat says the cub’s birth supports the European breeding programme, which aims to help protect the future of the species.

The park is also raising money for the Red Panda Network at Monkey Temple, near its other red pandas, Maya and Neo. Emma, Koda and their cub can be seen near the Jungle Cruise Boat Safari.
