Last chance to sign up for Walk for Wards as registrations pass 2,000

Over 2,000 people now signed up for the Stars Appeal's biggest fundraising event of the year, Walk for Wards, with the deadline for joining tonight (28/6).

The event, which is into its 21st year, helps provide a significant chuck of the £2 million pounds the Stars Appeal aims to raise this year in support of Salisbury District Hospital.

It takes place next Sunday, 5th July, at Wilton House, with 3km, 5km, 10km and 15km walking routes available.

Last year's event raised almost £167,000, a record total.

Helena Sinclair, Events and Community Fundraising Manager at the charity, said it's something that means a lot to the local area.

"It is such a poignant event, not just locally, we think it's probably one of the biggest community fundraising events and it's a free event as well. It raises so much money for Stars Appeal, Salisbury Hospitals charity," she said.

It allows people a chance to say thank you to the hospital, as well as giving back, with many walking on behalf of specific wards where they or loved ones have received care, such as the Pembroke Cancer Unit, Neonatal Unit or the Children's Unit.

Helena added: "People do it in memory of a loved one. It just gives them that opportunity to take that time to stop and reflect and be with other people and do something to show their love and care for those people that may no longer be here and to think about them as well."
