An exercise scheme developed by a Salisbury Physiotherapist that's helping children be more ready to learn is being backed by the local MP.

Corefulness is a series of exercise programmes created by Elizabeth Cordle to improve basic movement skills for children and to ensure they are classroom ready.

It breaks down barriers to learning by improving fine and gross motor skills, eye tracking, balance, coordination and primitive reflexes.

The programme is being rolled out nationally, but Ms Cordle has gone to MP for Salisbury, John Glen, for help in expanding its offer to SEND pupils.

Speaking in the House of Commons, Mr Glen said it was "rare" that someone came to one of his surgeries with a "solution", which is how he described Corefulness.

Address the Minister for School Standards, Mr Glen said: "She's uncertain of exactly how it could be applied to assist with SEND , but she's absolutely clear that it has enormous potential.

"Could I ask the Minister to engage with me and her so we can examine whether it has a wider application as this strategy is being developed?"

Catherine McKinnell MP said she agrees with the need to take a "constructive and collaborative approach" in improving outcomes for all children, insisting that intervening at the earliest stage possible to meet a child's needs is vital.

"I'd be more than happy to engage with him on the constructive suggestion set out."
