Increase in rogue traders prompts vigilance call in Salisbury
Elderly and vulnerable targeted by doorstep sales tactics
Police in Salisbury have reported a rise in rogue trader activity in the area, where elderly and vulnerable individuals are being targeted.
These traders employ high-pressure sales tactics, often selling substandard or unnecessary home maintenance services such as roofing, gardening, and driveway repairs.
Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant, especially when it comes to cold callers visiting properties unannounced, and to look out for vulnerable neighbours.
Wiltshire Council Trading Standards have issued guidance to help people protect themselves from these traders.
People are advised to never engage with uninvited callers offering home repairs.
Instead, they should look for verified professionals through the Buy With Confidence scheme endorsed by Trading Standards, obtain at least three written quotes before agreeing to any repairs, and avoid cash payments to ensure financial protection.
For suspected scams or fraudulent activity, individuals are urged to report to Action Fraud by dialling 0300 123 2040.
