Woman running four marathons in 90 days for veterans charity
Help for Heroes employee is taking on the challenge to help veterans thrive after service
A woman is running four marathons in 90 days to support veterans in their lives after service.
Lisa Mullen, from Wimborne in Dorset, is embarking on the incredible challenge to run four marathons within 90 days to raise funds for Downton-based charity Help for Heroes.
She's already completed two of marathons and takes on her third tomorrow (8/3), before completing the quartet next month in Manchester.
Lisa told us how she hopes her efforts can make a difference: "The transition back into civilian life can be really hard," she said. "Some people come home with physical injuries and mental health issues. What we do is help them live well after service."
She added that the charity provides counselling to support ex-service personnel with their mental health, whilst also offering financial advice and grants.
"One of our beneficiaries needed some adaptations to a house, so we could help with that," Lisa said.
She revealed that her inspiration for the challenge had come from working with the organisation, calling it an "incredibly worthwhile cause". Lisa had already signed up for the Manchester Marathon in April, and decided to make it a trio with the Great Welsh Marathon and the Thames Towpath marathon.
However, three became four after she spoke to a friend who'd got injured preparing for the Arundel winter trails in January, which became the opener to Lisa's quartet of marathons.
Lisa's hoping people will be generous enough to donate to her fundraising page in support of her efforts for veterans.
"What our armed forces community do, you know, they're fighting for us and they're doing a job that is so important."
