Emergency Services have scaled back their response after a large fire at a Grade II listed World War One Wiltshire airfield.

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire Service said it received reports of a fire on Lancaster Road, Old Sarum, Salisbury at around 18:38 BST on Thursday evening.

Additional crews supported the effort to contain the fire and emergency crews confirmed that the building had partially collapsed.

An adjacent building was also impacted, although the condition could not be confirmed.

A chemical warning was issued and people living near to Hangar 3 have been encouraged to keep their windows and doors shut.

Firefighters used multiple horse reel jets and mains lines to extinguish the blaze.

Overnight relief crews from Verwood, Shaftesbury, Blandford, Warminster, Ferndown, Cranborne, Westbury, Redhill Park, Gillingham and an aerial ladder platform from Swindon were on scene.

At 05.44 BST this morning (Friday 18th April), Dorset and Wiltshire Fire Service confirmed that the incident was scaled back.

Remaining crews are dampening down the scene.

There have been no reports of any injuries.
