Final phase of Trowbridge improvements underway
It's part of 12-months worth of boosts to the town centre to improve pedestrian and cyclist access and public spaces
The final phase of improvement works in Trowbridge have started.
It's part of a years worth of development to the town centre, which aims to improve access for cyclists and pedestrians, boost public spaces and support the regeneration of the town centre.
The latest period of work started on 4th August, with a full closure of Roundstone Street, between the junctions with Polebarn Road and Church Street/Silver Street.
The will be in place until 9 September 2025 to facilitate essential civil engineering works.
Work will be conducted between 7am and 7pm, Monday to Saturday with temporary traffic management measures in place 24 hours a day to ensure the safety of people, road users and contractors.
The council warns access to properties and businesses may be restricted on a temporary basis during the active works, but we're told "every effort" will be made to minimise disruption.
Cllr Martin Smith, Wiltshire Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways, Streetscene and Flooding, said: “We’re grateful to residents and businesses for their continued patience as we deliver these improvements to Roundstone Street. These works are a key part of a wider vision to make Trowbridge town centre more accessible, attractive and sustainable for everyone who lives, works and visits here.
“We’ve also taken the opportunity to coordinate with Wales & West Utilities so they can carry out planned maintenance on their gas infrastructure during our scheduled road closure. This joined up approach helps reduce the need for future disruption and makes the most of the existing traffic management arrangements already in place.
“There’s more good news too. Thanks to favourable weather conditions and a recent review of the construction programme, we’re able to bring forward the final phase of the scheme. Originally planned for October to March, this phase started yesterday, and it is anticipated that the entire project will be completed late Autumn.”
