Longleat Fennec Fox kits 'doing well' say keepers
The trio are the only ones born in the UK in the last 12 months
Keepers at Longleat Safari Park have given us an update on the Fennec Fox triplets born earlier this year.
The trio are being hand reared and have grown to almost ten times their weight from birth.
A team of dedicated keepers have been working around the clock to feed the kits milk six times a day.
And now they're being introduced to solid foods.
Keeper Samantha Peake said: “They are all doing really well and we have started the weaning process; so far cooked egg seems to be a favourite, but they are also eating vegetables and will soon move on to meat and insects.
“They are starting to show lots of great natural fox behaviours, lots of digging, playing and pouncing on each other and practicing their hunting skills.”
While the trio are yet to be named, there is one boy and two girls, and they're the only ones to have been born in UK Zoos and Safari Parks in the last year.
It's hoped the triplets are part of the 40% of Fennec Foxes that survive to adulthood.
