A former Wiltshire Police officer has told us it was a no-brainer decision to join the Wiltshire Bobby Van Trust.

Vincent Logue spent 22 years in Wiltshire as an Officer across the county, working alongside Trust, and has now joined the charity as a Security Operative.

He's replaced Will Todd who retired from the organisation earlier in 2024.

During his time as an Officer, Vincent liaised with the Bobby Van team.

"I really enjoyed working with them," he told Greatest Hits Radio, adding: "They're just a good bunch of people, so when the opportunity arose, I jumped at the chance to join the team."

Vincent said he's loving the positive impact his role is having on Wiltshire's most vulnerable people.

He said: "The difference we can make is when we attend somebody's house and you can see sometimes that they're very nervous about living on their own. And a lot of occasions and when we come away, I've seen the relief on people's faces and the instant change in their character. It is fantastic."

The Trust's trio of Operators work in partnership with the Police Force to visit homes across Wiltshire to offer and fit home security measures and fire safety assessments for people over 60, those at risk of domestic abuse or over 18 with a registered disability.

The vans are mobile workshops, equipped with tools and parts to help people who've been burgled and those who've suffered or are at risk of domestic abuse.

The team replace door and window locks, check smoke alarms, pass on security advice and provide critical reassurance.

“It’s the ideal job for me because I love DIY, being out and about doing useful things and meeting nice people,” said Vincent. “The people we deal with are all pleased to see us.”

Charity Director Mrs Shaw said: “We are absolutely delighted to welcome Vincent to the team, like our other operators, he brings a great deal of experience and knowledge, as well as kindness which is so important.

“We are incredibly proud of the service we provide, and the fact that do it without any local or central government funding. Vincent will help us to reach more people and make what we do even more valuable.”
