A Wiltshire shopping centre is set to be redeveloped after Wiltshire Council approved plans.

Plans for the redevelopment of Emery Gate Shopping Centre in Chippenham were approved by the Council's Strategic Planning Committee, marking a pivotal moment in the town's regeneration efforts through the Chippenham One Plan.

This scheme, led by Chippenham Riverside Limited, is set to deliver 225 new homes and modern commercial spaces, alongside improved public areas linking the High Street to Island Park and the river corridor.

The redevelopment represents one of the most significant regeneration opportunities Chippenham has seen in decades, subject to planning conditions.

Cllr Ian Thorn, Leader of Wiltshire Council, highlighted the milestone's importance in revitalising Chippenham's town centre, noting that the project aligns with the Chippenham One Plan ambitions endorsed by Wiltshire Council's Cabinet in October 2024.

“This decision marks an important step forward in revitalising Chippenham town centre," Cllr Thorn said.

The approved scheme encompasses new Class E, F1/F2, and community spaces, improved retail units, landscaping, active frontages facing Island Park, enhanced access routes, and increased biodiversity, contributing to an enriched public realm.

These developments aim to stimulate economic activity and adapt to evolving consumer needs, benefiting residents and visitors alike.

Cllr Thorn added, "Securing planning permission is a significant and positive milestone in enabling this project to progress. It signals real confidence in the future of Chippenham town centre."

Through enhanced infrastructure and fresh investments, the Emery Gate Shopping Centre's redevelopment promises to support local businesses and create an inviting, contemporary environment for current and future communities.

As Chippenham prepares for transformation, residents and stakeholders anticipate a revitalised town centre that stands as a testament to collaborative progress and strategic planning.
