A drink driver who caused injury to a member of the public who attempted to stop his vehicle has been sentenced.
Adam Rogers, 35, of Queens Road, Westbury, pleaded guilty to drink driving and dangerous driving when he appeared at Salisbury Magistrates Court on 15 September.
He was sentenced to a 12 month prison sentence, suspended for 15 months, and disqualified from driving for a year and a half.
At 1.40am on November 16, 2024, police were called to Castle Street in Trowbridge following concerns regarding a drink driver.
Rogers was driving a BMW 3 series when he was approached by a member of the public who had concerns over his fitness to drive.
Rogers then drove off whilst the man’s arm was still in the car, causing him to be dragged alongside the vehicle and leaving him with injuries such as cuts to his hands and knees.
Rogers eventually stopped the vehicle in Woodmarsh and police arrived.
Officers found that Rogers smelt strongly of alcohol and was slurring his speech.
He failed a roadside breath test and was subsequently arrested.
Sergeant James Barrett, of the Roads Policing Unit, said: “Rogers’ mindless actions caused injury to a member of the public who was trying to prevent him from driving and putting himself and other road users at serious risk of injury, or worse, death.
"He was in no fit state to be behind the wheel of a car and I am pleased that a lengthy disqualification has been given.”
