People in Wiltshire are being asked to put their best foot - or paw - forward to support dogs being cared for by the Dogs Trust.

The charity, which has a rehoming centre in Newton Tony, is challenging us to walk 99k for canines through February in a sponsored walk.

It's in a bid to raise critical finding for the organisation, which revealed to Greatest Hits Radio it spends an average of £2,000 on care for each dog it looks after.

The challenge is open to everyone, whether they have a dog or not, and can be completed as gradually as we wish.

Operations Manager at the Newton Tony centre, Neil Barker told us they're at full capacity, with a growing waiting list of dogs needing care and rehoming.

He said the cost-of-living crisis has seen many pups brought to their doors.

"The owners can't afford the veterinary care, so then we then take the dog in and then we have to deal with all the veterinary procedures and care and treatment that's needed for the welfare of that animal.

"It's a tremendous amount of money that we as an organisation spend on veterinary care," he said.

He's urged everyone who's a dog lover to get involved, saying every pound raised is 'a significant contribution'.
