Dispersal order in Melksham town centre after repeated anti-social behaviour
Police say they've had numerous reports of anti-social behaviour involving young people
Wiltshire Police have put a dispersal order in place in Melksham town centre and King George V park after repeated reports of anti-social behaviour.
The force say in recent days, they have received numerous reports of youth antisocial behaviour in and around the town centre, including alcohol use, entering derelict buildings and defecation in public.
It added that there has also been offences such as theft and arson in the skate park.
As a result a section 35 dispersal order is now in place which gives officers the power to temporarily exclude anyone suspected of engaging in antisocial behaviour or disorder from a designated area.
If the person returns to the area then they could be arrested.
It will be in place until 1.45pm on 10th October.
Neighbourhood Sergeant Charly Chilton said: “The recent increase in antisocial behaviour is completely unacceptable. Members of the public shouldn’t have to put up with being harassed or intimidated when simply going about their day.
“This order will be in place for an initial 48-hour period and anyone found to be involved in antisocial behaviour will be dealt with swiftly and robustly.
“Creating and maintaining safer public spaces for all continues to be a Force priority and we will continue to work to ensure Melksham is a safe and peaceful place to live.”
