A hardware shop in Devizes that's been put up for sale would be a major loss to the high street, if no buyer is found by May next year.

Mainlys of Devizes has been put up for sale by owners Clare and Colin Henrich, who are planning to retire, having run the shop since 2003.

Clare told us it was a difficult decision to make, but with the lease on the property up for renewal next June, they chose to pass the store on to new hands.

Colin said that it would be a blow to the town's high street for the store to disappear next year.

"We sell such a vast array of different items, things that you won't be able to find in any other shopping devices or the local area. We're really a one stop shop," he said. "Some of the things, I don't know where customers will find them, you know. Be be online. It'll just be such a such a loss to the High Street.

Clare added that the knowledge of the staff in the store will also be a loss to customers.

"A lot of the people that come into the shop, they don't go to the item, they come to the staff and they're asking for advice and you can't get that online," she told us.

The pair said they would miss the staff, some of whom have been with them for many years.

Reaction from the community has been strong, with many leaving comments on the Facebook post announcing the decision to sell.

A man declared the store "one of the best shops in Devizes", while a woman added: "Hope someone takes it over. Good store and very good and helpful staff."
