Community banner to be unveiled in Devizes
The 177 panel display is going up in the Corn Exchange over this weekend
A banner created by the community of Devizes is going on display today as a mark of local creativity.
The project has been led by Town Mayor, Cllr Vanessa Tanner, who said it's likely the first creative display by the wider population of the town since the millennium.
"I wanted the community to create a long lasting piece of art to represent the town, be a snapshot of devices in 2026, showing who they are, what they do," she said.
It's seen an enormous amount of participation, from local businesses, schools, residential homes and local community groups, with 177 panels ready to be displayed in the Corn Exchange this weekend.
Once the exhibition is complete, it will be moved to the Library from Thursday next week, before moving to The Shambles after the summer for its long-term home.
Mayor Tanner said she's been overwhelmed by the amount of people getting involved, which includes people from nearby Urchfont and All Cannings.
"To me, it's the more the merrier. We're all community, we all live, we all work, we all do things in Devizes," she said. "It's crossed all sections of society. One of the first one's to come in from the Men's Shed. They cut little bits of the tools out on thin wood and they've been sewn on."
