Delivery drivers each fined £1,000 for fly-tipping in Wiltshire
A furniture delivery led to costly penalties after illegal waste dumping
Two delivery drivers have been fined £1,000 each after admitting to fly-tipping in Christian Malford, Wiltshire.
The incident occurred in September 2025 and was discovered by a Wiltshire Council Environmental Enforcement Officer.
Evidence linked the waste to a recent furniture delivery in the area carried out by a distribution company in northern England.
The company provides a service that includes unpacking and assembling furniture along with packaging removal.
Once contacted by the authorities, the company cooperated fully with the investigation, leading to the identification of the drivers involved.
The drivers admitted to dumping the waste, citing insufficient space in their vehicle for the additional packaging.
Both have since paid their £1,000 Fixed Penalty Notices in full.
Fixed penalty notices are not court convictions, therefore, the identity of the drivers remains undisclosed.
Following the incident, the company issued written warnings to both drivers and reminded all staff about the legal duty to dispose of waste responsibly.
Cllr Martin Smith, Cabinet Member for Highways, stated: "Even if a vehicle is 'too full', that is no excuse for fly-tipping.
"Businesses and their employees have a legal duty to dispose of waste responsibly, and dumping it instead is a deliberate act that harms our environment and local communities."
Cllr Smith applauded the company’s cooperation but warned that significant financial penalties await those who fly-tip in Wiltshire.
He concluded by emphasizing the council’s commitment to investigating such matters thoroughly and holding individuals accountable.
