Wiltshire Council has approved plans to implement the Connect to Work Supported Employment Programme, utilising £10.4 million in funding from the Department for Works and Pensions.

The programme aims to assist residents with health conditions, disabilities, or complex barriers in obtaining sustainable employment across Wiltshire and Swindon.

The initiative will be delivered until 2030, providing personalised, one-to-one job support to thousands in the region.

Of the total grant, £2.2 million will be allocated to The Shaw Trust Limited to offer specialist Individual Placement Support.

The programme prioritises finding suitable job roles for individuals and providing ongoing support for job retention.

Connect to Work includes personalised job matching and collaboration with employers to create more inclusive work environments.

Participants will receive short-term, in-work support to mitigate job loss risks, helping them overcome obstacles and make significant contributions to the workforce and economy.

Connect to Work is part of the Government's Get Britain Working plans and complements existing employment and health support in the county.

Cllr Jon Hubbard, Cabinet Member for Children's Services, SEND, Education and Skills, emphasised the programme’s aim is to help those facing barriers to employment.

"Connect to Work is about helping people who want to work but face real barriers to do so," Hubbard said.

"This programme offers personalised, practical support that recognises people's strengths and works alongside employers to create meaningful, sustainable job opportunities."
