A former tyre-fitting workshop could be converted into a convenience store, under plans filed this week.

Antony Benedict has applied to Wiltshire Council for permission to change the use of the building at Cocklebury Road, Chippenham.

The tyre-fitting business closed in February 2025 when ATS Euromaster closed 86 of its least profitable outlets as part of a restructure.

The proposed development would “bring the vacant unit back into active use,” and “respond to local demand,” according to the application.

The conversion would include the installation of a new shop front and fascia signage, which would be the subject of a separate application.

The proposed opening hours are 10am to 11pm Monday to Saturday, and 11am to 10pm on Sundays and bank holidays.

Six full-time and eight part-time jobs would be created, says the applicant.

The total site extends to 714 sq m, of which 313 sq m is trading or storage space.

Under the plans, the former workshop at the front of the premises would be converted into the shop floor, with an office and staff room retained.

Large storage areas would mean fewer deliveries, the applicant says.

The property has four parking spaces including a disabled bay. A further 130 sq m outside could provide space for two further car parking spaces at bicycle rack, says the applicant.

A decision from Wiltshire Council is expected by mid-May.
