Body of man recovered from River Avon in Chippenham

The man's family are being supported by specially trained officers

A man's body has been recovered from the River Avon in Chippenham.

At around 2.40 am this morning (31st March), police responded to reports of concerns for a person's welfare near the Town Bridge area.

Officers, alongside Wiltshire Search and Rescue (WILSAR) and specialist underwater search teams from Avon and Somerset Police have been working together at the scene.

The man's family have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.

Wiltshire Police have made a self-referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), as is mandatory following prior contact with police.
