Students told they're not alone on results day with help available
Thousands will be collecting A-Level results today
Teenagers collecting their A-Level results in Wiltshire today are being encouraged to reach out for help if they're unsure of their next steps.
Thousands will be picking up results after nervously waiting to find out how they've done, but Wiltshire Council is reminding them that even if results aren't what students were hoping for, there are lots of options available to them.
"If things aren't quite what you wanted, talk to your school," Cllr Jon Hubbard, Cabinet Member for Education, urged. "Your school has a whole wealth of options available for you and can give some really great advice."
He said that extra advice is also available online, with the council providing dedicated results pages on its website to help people with their options. That help can be found here.
Cllr Hubbard said the day can be stressful and overwhelming, urging anyone struggling to seek help and reminding them that they're not alone.
"If you really are worried because you don't know what to do as a result, talk to someone," he said. "If you can't think of someone to talk to, whip out your phone and send a text message of "WILTS" to 85258. Wiltshire Shout are there and ready to support you."
He added that the results collected today are simply a snapshot of where someone is now and that everyone can go on to achieve success in the future.
"You may not succeed the route you thought you would, but you will succeed," Cllr Hubbard said. "You might end up succeeding at doing something completely different."
While many will be aiming for places at University, Cllr Hubbard said there are apprenticeships and further education available to those who aren't going to Uni, while anyone who misses out on first-choice University places can fall back on second or third options.
