Digital patient records now accessible across Devon hospitals
New system aims to enhance patient care and data sharing
Hospitals across Devon have introduced a new electronic patient record (EPR) system to streamline healthcare information and improve patient care.
The system, now live, synchronises patient health data across multiple healthcare settings, including hospitals and community sites, facilitating better patient management.
The EPR collates information such as medications, allergies, test results, radiology images, care plans, and vital signs, enabling seamless integration across three key health partners: Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust, and University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust.
Following the launch, patients may notice medical personnel spending more time on electronic devices, a move designed to ensure optimal patient care through comprehensive digital record access.
Deputy Chief Executive Sarah Brampton expressed enthusiasm for the new system: "There is a real sense of excitement among colleagues as we go live with our new EPR. I want to thank everyone for their hard work and commitment in delivering this safely, while continuing to provide excellent care."
Brampton also requested patience as staff adapt to the system, reiterating the ongoing priority on patient safety: "As staff get used to the system, we kindly ask patients, families and carers to bear with us. Patient safety remains our top priority. If you need any help or have concerns, please speak to your clinical team."
In addition to the EPR launch, patients will have access to the MY CARE portal, a secure app and website to manage their healthcare records. Accessible via computer, mobile, or tablet, it will offer features like appointment schedules and test results.
Further details about MY CARE can be found on the University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust webpage, with clinical teams available for assistance.
