A new community trail is being launched for Barnstaple with locals and visitors being asked to share their memories of the town

It's backed by the town's museum and North Devon Council and the trail on the digital platform Humap 'hopes to capture the lived experiences of places in Barnstaple through the voices of local people'.

Assistant Curator Anita Nathwani said: "This project is about more than mapping places — it’s about capturing the memories, voices, and everyday stories that make Barnstaple unique.

"We hope the Community Trail will become a living record of the town as seen through the eyes of the people who know it best. Together, we can build a map that tells Barnstaple’s story—one memory at a time.

"These may include recollections of local events, significant landmarks, family traditions, or everyday moments that reflect the character and history of the town.

"The aim is to create a publicly accessible, interactive trail that not only highlights Barnstaple’s heritage but also captures its evolving identity through the perspectives of its community.

"Submissions can be of any length and may include photographs and suggested locations. Contributions from individuals of all ages and backgrounds are warmly welcomed."
