The family of a man who died after a road traffic collision in Woodstock on Monday, 30 June, have paid tribute to him.

John Burdon, 95, was crossing Oxford Street between Upper Brook Hill and Brook Hill at around 5.50pm when he was hit by a blue Jaguar S-Type. He was taken to hospital in a serious condition but died the following night, Tuesday 1 July. His family are being supported by specially trained officers.

His family said: “We would like to thank the Woodstock community for their support and kind words following the sad and tragic death on Tuesday of our father, grandfather and great grandfather.

“John had lived in Woodstock for 14 years and was a regular sight in the town and walking in the Blenheim estate.

“He was loved and respected by many residents and known for his kindness, generosity and as a true gentleman.

“John loved to sing and had been a member of the Woodstock choral society. He was also a regular member of the congregation in church on Sundays.

“We appreciate all the help offered and will let everyone know about funeral arrangements in due course.”

Detective Sergeant Ed Crofts from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “I offer my deepest condolences to the victim’s family at this distressing time.

“We continue to appeal to anyone who was driving in the area at the time to check their dash-cam footage, as it may have captured something that could help with our enquiries.

“The Jaguar was travelling north on the A44 through Woodstock town centre towards Enstone.

“If you saw the collision, have any information or any footage which shows the pedestrian or the Jaguar before the collision, please call 101 or make a report via our website, quoting reference number 43250326293.”

No arrests have been made at this stage.
