Thames Valley Air Ambulance tell 'untold story' in Christmas appeal
The charity has released a hard-hitting video to promote the work of their aftercare team
Thames Valley Air Ambulance say their Christmas appeal highlights the work of their aftercare team, saying it’s not just the frontline crew who look out for the community at Christmas.
Their aftercare team know that December can be a difficult month for those who’ve lost a loved one, or former patients dealing with life-changing injuries.
The charity say Christmas is an important time where they hope to boost their income to help fund the more than ten million pounds they need every year to keep going.
Their message this Christmas is 'here for you, however the story ends'.
Chief executive Amanda McLean told us:
"Very often at Christmas everyone wants to see a fairytale ending and a happy story but actually I'm very proud of the crew for opening up and telling the story about those that we didn't manage to safe, those people we supported through life changing trauma and loss.
"There's nobody else that provides that support both for the patients that survive and those that are bereaved and we think it's really important we provide it right the way through, and the feedback we've had from people we absolutely know it's the right thing to do."
The charity offers advice on how to support some grieving here.
The charity say they expect this year to be their busiest yet for call outs.
