Thames Valley Police is appealing for witnesses to a fatal road traffic collision in Horspath yesterday

A white Kia Rio 2 left Cuddesdon Road, near the junction of The Green, and hit a telegraph pole at around 10.20pm.

The driver, a 19-year-old man, sadly died at the scene. His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.

A passenger, woman in her twenties, required hospital treatment for minor injuries but has since been discharged.

A spokesperson for the force said:

"A black BMW 3 Series, which had been in convoy with the Kia, remained at the scene after the collision. The driver, a 22-year-old man from South Oxfordshire, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, drink-driving, dangerous driving and driving while unfit through drink or drugs. He has been released under investigation."

Investigating officer Detective Sergeant Lyndsey Blackaby, of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "Tragically, a young man has died following this collision. Our thoughts are with his loved ones at this extremely difficult time.

"I am appealing for anyone who saw the collision or the two cars driving in the Horspath and Wheatley areas between 9.45pm to 10.20pm to contact us.

"I am also appealing for anyone with a dash-camera who was driving in the area at the time to check their recordings and let us know if they captured anything that could help our investigation. You can send material to us directly via this dedicated online portal.

"Lastly, please do not speculate about the circumstances of this investigation online to protect our investigation and not prejudice any future court proceedings."
