A man from Oxfordshire who lost two and a half stone says it’s ‘life-changing’ and is encouraging more people to take their first step in losing weight.

It comes as research from Slimming World shows 50% of UK adults say they’ve put off even trying to lose weight, with six in 10 of those aged under 27 most likely to delay (63%).

The survey also reveals four in 10 (42%) have thought about losing weight at least once a week without taking action, despite around half being unhappy with their size (48%) and saying they know they eat unhealthy food (54%) and almost three-quarters wanting to improve their health (70%).

Alan Noble, from Benson, runs a Swimming World group in Oxfordshire, he said: “Take that first step. Whether that's building activity in your life, gentle movement, eating healthier, and getting fitter, happier and healthier. But the first step is to reach out.”

He added: “Everyone's journey is different.

“This is a lifestyle change, so keep at it and enjoy the foods, and nothing is off limits. So, it's about enjoying those foods, but also changing your life and understanding what's important for the future.”

“My life has changed dramatically”

In other research by more than 7,000 new Slimming World members last January, over two thirds said before going to a Slimming World group, they didn’t ‘dare dream they could lose weight and stay slim’ (69%).

Many members said that they’d had feelings of doubt, uncertainty and a lack of motivation and control for more than a year,

According to the research, after one survey ‘almost every new member left filled with self-belief, self-confidence and self-determination’.

Mr Noble said: “My life has changed dramatically. I'm proud of the way I look. I'm proud of the role model that I am for my two children.

“They were seeing an unhappy dad. My wife was seeing a grumpy father and a grumpy husband, and now I'm not. I've got a lease of life. I really am so proud of what I've achieved.”
