Car engulfed by flames on M40 in Oxfordshire
The owner was able to evacuate safely when the fire started
Oxfordshire fire crews responded to a car fire on the M40 late on Sunday evening (12 April).
The fire broke out northbound between Junction 10 at Ardley and Junction 11 at Banbury at 11:17pm.
On arrival, firefighters found the vehicle engulfed in flames, with a fuel fire running onto the carriageway.
The car's owner had evacuated before the fire escalated, and no injuries were reported.
The motorway was completely closed for 30 minutes until a lane was reopened by Highways England Traffic officers with assistance from Thames Valley Police.
Fire crews used hose-reels and breathing apparatus to extinguish the blaze and prevent further damage to the road.
