A man from Oxford has been sentenced to four years in prison after causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

Jordan Marks, 34, of Stone Meadow, Oxford, was jailed at Oxford Crown Court on 19th December.

Marks has also been banned from driving for seven years. If he wishes to regain his licence after that period, he will need to pass a driving test.

He was found guilty of one count of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and one count of dangerous driving by a unanimous jury after a five-day trial at Oxford Crown Court.

The case relates to an incident on 6th March 2021 on Great Clarendon Street in Jericho.

Marks hit a pedestrian who became trapped between Marks’ car and a parked vehicle.

The victim, a woman now in her sixties, sustained life-changing injuries to her leg.

Marks did not stop at the scene, and the vehicle involved was only discovered days later, which police said contributed to the complexity of the investigation.

He was arrested two days after the collision and charged on 9th October 2023.

Detective Constable Julia Stroud, who investigated the case, said:

“This was a complicated case that was frustrated by the fact that Marks failed to stop at the scene and because the offending vehicle was found several days after the collision.

“Marks’ actions fell far below those of competent, careful drivers and shows the devastation caused when driving dangerously.

“He will be serving a prison sentence but the victim will have to live with the injuries.

“Dangerous driving and failing to stop is unacceptable.

“I hope that this sentence reassures our communities that we will pursue those driving dangerously, no matter how complicated the case, and put them before the courts.”
