MP supports legal challenge against plans for former MOD site to house asylum seekers
Calum Miller has called for the Government to withdraw the application.
A legal challenge has been launched over plans to use the former Ministry of Defence site in Bicester to house asylum seekers.
If the plans are approved, the site would house up to 1,256 people.
Bicester and Woodstock MP Calum Miller is calling on the Government to withdraw the application.
Responding to the pre-action letter sent today by Bicester Countryside and Communities CIC over MOD Bicester, Miller said: “Local residents have taken the first formal step towards a judicial review over MOD Bicester. I’ve worked closely with the campaign since helping bring residents together this summer, and strongly support this challenge.
“Their lawyers raise serious questions about the decision that a full Environmental Impact Assessment is unnecessary. Cherwell’s planning committee has also delivered a devastating assessment, yet ministers have refused to give residents more time to comment.
“The Government cannot keep rushing this through while basic questions remain unanswered. This is the wrong site for local communities, for people seeking asylum and for taxpayers. Ministers should withdraw the application today.”
It follows campaigners raising concerns about the environmental assessment and the time given to residents to respond.
