Following a Thames Valley Police investigation, a man has been sentenced following a public order offence at the Oxford United match against Queens Park Rangers (QPR) in April.

Thomas Bennett, aged 35, of no fixed abode, received a three-year football banning order following a hearing at Oxford Magistrates’ Court.

Bennett was also sentenced to pay a £561 fine, £100 victim compensation and £85 court costs.

On 9 April this year, Bennett was identified as being racially abusive towards a steward in the East Stand during the first half of the Championship fixture between Oxford United and QPR.

Bennett will now be prevented from attending regulated football matches in the UK for the duration of the order.

He will also have to surrender his passport when England play away fixtures and is banned from attending any of the national team’s home fixtures.
