Following a Thames Valley Police investigation, a man has been jailed for driving whilst disqualified at Oxford Magistrates’ Court.

Joshua Basil, aged 27, of no fixed abode, was sentenced to 6 months in prison on Friday after pleading guilty to one count of driving whilst disqualified and one count of using a motor vehicle without third party insurance.

Basil was also sentenced to pay ÂŁ85 court cost fines and a surcharge of ÂŁ154.

On Wednesday (17/9), officers followed a vehicle driving through Chipping Norton which had a Police National Computer Act marker, before stopping it on Albion Street.

Basil was the sole occupant of the vehicle, stating that there was a trade policy on the vehicle. Whilst checks were being completed, it transpired that Basil was a disqualified driver and there was no insurance policy in place.

Basil had a total of 24 points on his license and had previously been given a suspended sentence for driving whilst disqualified, with the disqualification in place until 2028.

The 27-year-old was arrested at the scene and charged with the offences on the following day.

Investigating officer, PC Jack Boyden, said: “This investigation has focused on an individual with a flagrant disregard for the law.

“We will continue to focus our efforts on targeting offenders in our rural communities.

“Thames Valley Police remains committed to keeping our roads safe and taking robust action against those who put others at risk.”
