A man has been found not guilty of intentionally wounding following a stabbing incident that left another man seriously injured in Oxford.

Thomas Mesai Siyoum, aged 24, stood trial at Oxford Crown Court, where he was acquitted of section 18 wounding with intent on 12th March.

Mesai Siyoum had previously admitted to unlawful wounding and carrying a knife in a public space, charges related to the incident in Oxford.

The confrontation took place on James Wolfe Road on the evening of 20th July last year.

The victim was approached by Mesai Siyoum, who accused him of gossiping about him.

During the encounter, Mesai Siyoum brandished a knife and stabbed the victim in the right leg before escaping the scene.

The victim sustained severe injuries, requiring hospital care, but has subsequently recovered and been discharged.

Investigating officer, Detective Constable Rebekah Routh of Oxford CID, said: “We are pleased that Siyoum previously pleaded guilty to two charges in the face of the evidence against him, and I hope that this conviction shows that Thames Valley Police will relentlessly pursue those who commit serious violence.

“Mesai Siyoum inflicted serious injuries to the victim, and it was only thanks to a quick-thinking member of the public using a t-shirt as a tourniquet that the victim’s life was saved."

Mesai Siyoum is scheduled to be sentenced at Oxford Crown Court on 9th April.
