Appeal for information after suspected arson in Oxfordshire village
Police seek witnesses following grass fire close to homes in the village of Grove.
Thames Valley Police are appealing for information following a suspected arson attack that led to a significant grass fire dangerously close to residential properties in an Oxfordshire village.
The fire ignited in a field near Tozer Way and Armstrong Avenue in Grove on the 16th of August.
It affected a grassland and hedgerow area measuring 50m by 50m, requiring intervention from the Fire Service who successfully extinguished the blaze.
Police say dry conditions heightened the risk of damage, and with the fire’s proximity to homes, it had potential to escalate further.
Prior to the incident, several youths were seen behaving in an anti-social manner along Byron Avenue.
Around 10:00pm, a male on a silver moped, another on a dark moped, and a child were spotted traveling from Byron Avenue towards Armstrong Avenue, where the fire was discovered.
Police are eager to identify the individuals on mopeds and request help from anyone who witnessed the incident or has relevant information.
They are also interested in hearing from youths in the area who might have observed events leading to the fire.
