Finance workers to strike over offshoring at Oxford University Press
Over 30 finance staff plan action due to role relocations to India
Over 30 finance workers at Oxford University Press (OUP) are set to strike next month following the organisation's decision to relocate nearly 50 job roles to India.
The roles being moved are part of the finance operations department and will be outsourced to EXL Services, making staff unable to transfer with their work under TUPE regulations.
This announcement follows recent plans from OUP, including a proposal made last November to cut 113 jobs in the UK, primarily impacting its education and English language teaching divisions.
Unite general secretary Sharon Graham criticised the decision, saying: "Oxford University Press’ offshoring plan is a classic case of an employer prioritising greed over its hardworking staff. It is an absolute disgrace that it has pushed through this decision and put our members' jobs at risk. Unite will fight all the way to protect our members' jobs and they have our full backing."
The scheduled strike action will run from the 1st to the 11th of September.
OUP, part of the University of Oxford, is the largest university press globally.
In response, OUP said: "We are committed to consulting with our colleagues to reach a resolution. We have plans in place to minimise any potential disruption to colleagues, customers, or suppliers."
