Court bans putting flags near Oxfordshire roads illegally
Oxfordshire County council have won a high court battle to stop illegal roadside flag displays
The High Court has decided that people can no longer put flags near roads in Oxfordshire without permission.
The decision, finalised on 9th July, pertains to individuals including those associated with the group 'Raise the Colours.'
It follows a previous hearing on 23rd June at the Royal Courts of Justice, where three of the four named defendants agreed not to place flags, nor encourage others to do so, in Oxfordshire.
The ban will last for a year and could be extended.
Anyone caught breaking the rules could face jail, fines, or have things taken away for helping others to break the rules.
Oxfordshire County Council will keep a close watch and will seek costs from anyone who breaks the rules.
The council has faced trouble before from people putting flags on roads without permission, causing confrontations.
The council is clear that people can still fly flags on their own property and continues to display flags at County Hall.
