A Banbury man has been sentenced to four years and six months in prison after being convicted of stabbing a woman and threatening another with a knife.

Michael Brits, 27, of Fair Close, Banbury, was sentenced at Oxford Crown Court on Friday, 16th October, following a Thames Valley Police investigation.

Brits faced charges of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, threatening a person with a bladed article in a private place, and possession of a knife/bladed article in a public place, alongside a charge he admitted.

He was acquitted of attempted murder after a six-day trial at Oxford Crown Court on 17th August.

The convictions relate to an incident on 27th March at a residence in Fair Close, Banbury.

Brits entered a room occupied by a woman in her sixties, accusing her of being "evil" and expressing he needed to "get rid" of her, before stabbing her multiple times.

The victim sustained stab wounds to her abdomen, thigh, and hands, with the injuries requiring hospital treatment but not deemed life-threatening.

After fleeing to a neighbouring property for assistance, Brits left the scene with the knife, later threatening another woman before returning to drop the weapon.

He was arrested when officers arrived and subsequently charged on 28th March.

Detective Constable Chloe Jeffs of Banbury CID highlighted the grave impact of knife violence on individuals and communities, reassuring that the police remain committed to tackling serious violent offences.
