An 81-year-old man from Banbury has been jailed for sexual offences against a child.
Richard Willbond, of Miller Road, appeared at Oxford Crown Court on Thursday (18th September), where he was handed a sentence of two years and four months.
He had previously pleaded guilty at Oxford Magistrates’ Court on 18th August to one count of assault of a girl under 13 by touching, under section 7 of the Sexual Offences Act 2003.
Willbond was interviewed under caution by police on 16th June this year, before being charged by postal requisition on 6th August.
The conviction follows a Thames Valley Police investigation led by the Child Abuse Investigation Unit.
Investigating officer Detective Constable Lucy McDonagh said: “As a specially trained detective in investigating the abuse of children, I remain grateful to the bravery of the victim and her family for the courage and support shown during this investigation.
“A predatory sexual offender has now been sent to prison.”
