Officers make more arrests in Banbury after violence saw man sustain 'significant stab wound'

One man's been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder

Officers investigating a violent disorder in Banbury have made more arrests.

At just before 6.40pm last Monday, police were called to reports of a fight involving 10-12 men in Hilton Road.

A larger group of men were also in the area at the time.

A man in his thirties sustained a significant stab wound to his arm.

He required hospital treatment and has since been discharged.

Two men, aged 38 and 45, both from Banbury, have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and violent disorder.

They have been released on police bail.

Subsequently, officers arrested a third man, aged 26 and from Bicester, was arrested on suspicion of GBH.

He has been released on police bail.

Officers have also carried out two search warrants at properties in Hilton Road and have subsequently arrested two men, aged 33 and 40, both from Banbury, in connection with the violent disorder.

They have been released on police bail.

Lead investigating officer Detective Inspector James Holden-White, of Banbury CID, said: “I understand that incidents like this one may cause concern but I still believe there to be no wider risk to the public.

We believe that the victim and offenders are known to each other, and to members of the wider local community who were present.

We are continuing to make good progress in this investigation and have made three more arrests.

Officers have also been carrying out increased patrols in the area and are engaging with the community to offer reassurance.
