A 45-year-old man from Abingdon has been sentenced to 13 years in prison, with an additional three-year extended licence period, for non-recent child sexual offences.

Christoper Jones, of West St Helen Street, was handed his sentence at Oxford Crown Court following a Thames Valley Police investigation.

Jones committed the offences against two children during the summer of 2007, threatening to kill them if they disclosed the abuse to anyone.

Jones was initially found guilty by a majority verdict of two counts of engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child on 15th October 2024 after an eight-day trial.

A further re-trial was held at the same court after a hung jury. He was subsequently convicted of assaulting a child under 13 by penetration and one count of causing or inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity on 30th September 2024.

In addition to his convictions, Jones had breached an interim sexual harm prevention order and was sentenced to 10 months in prison and remanded on 23rd April 2025.

Detective Constable Nicola Fullerton, who led the investigation, commended the victims for their bravery.

“I would like to thank the victims for the strength, courage and bravery they have shown throughout this long investigation involving a trial and re-trial,” Fullerton said.

“Christoper Jones’s conviction is a testament to Thames Valley Police’s commitment to bring sexual offenders to justice and to make our streets a safe place for everyone.”

Fullerton encouraged individuals with information about sexual offences or victims of sexual offences to contact the police.

Thames Valley Police has stressed its commitment to taking sexual offences against children seriously, regardless of when the offences occurred.
