A 21-year-old from Oxford has been sentenced to prison for over two years after admitting to causing serious injury by dangerous driving and driving without insurance.

Omar Faruq was sentenced at Oxford Crown Court on 5th February, following his guilty plea to multiple charges, including three counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

Faruq, who also faces a five-year driving ban, was involved in a high-speed chase with police officers on 24th October 2023.

Driving a white BMW without insurance, Faruq collided with a Volkswagen Touran containing a mother and her six children, all aged under 14, while attempting to evade the police.

The collision caused serious injuries to three of the children, including broken limbs and other extensive injuries.

According to Thames Valley Police, Faruq drove at speeds exceeding 100mph, recklessly navigating roads in Oxford before losing control and crashing.

Following an investigation, four additional individuals from the BMW were arrested with the help of police and dog units.

Another man connected with the vehicle's hire was also arrested but later released with no further action, while Faruq was charged via postal requisition in August 2025.

Detective Constable Naomi Hames commented on the dangerous driving displayed by Faruq, emphasizing the severe consequences for the injured children and cautioning against high-risk behavior in high-performance vehicles.

The family involved and local residents were commended for their patience and support during the investigation.
