Rory McIlroy named RTE sportsperson of the year 2025
Co Down golfer Rory McIlroy has been named RTE Sport Sportsperson of the year.
It comes just days after he was named BBC Sports Personality of the Year in the UK, capping off a year that saw him win the Masters in April to complete the career grand slam of golf's four major titles.
The 36-year-old from Holywood was also part of Europe's victorious Ryder Cup team who triumphed over the United States in New York.
McIlroy previously won the Irish national broadcaster's title in 2014.
Galway-born swimmer John Shortt, 18, was named Young Sportsperson of the Year, Kerry was Team of the Year and Shamrock Rovers boss Stephen Bradley was Manager of the Year.
Meanwhile, Ciaran Fitzgerald, the former Lions captain who led Ireland to Triple Crown glory on two occasions and to a Five Nations championship, was inducted into the RTE Sport Hall of Fame.
