Woman who stole from vulnerable people in Northampton is jailed
It happened on January 29.
A 33-year-old woman has been jailed for more than three years after she admitted to stealing from vulnerable people.
It happened on the afternoon of January 29 this year.
Jasmin Cerise Norton, alongside an accomplice, entered a man’s address in Knightscliffe Way, Northampton, using a key from the key safe box on the outside of the property.
They stole a laptop and the man’s bank card, which was then used fraudulently at a nearby shop.
A short time later, they forced their way into a man’s home in Ambush Street, Northampton, and once inside, stole coins from his pocket, a phone, a laptop, and a jar of 5p coins.
Finally, on February 4, Norton entered an address in Monarch Road, Northampton, after asking the occupant to use the bathroom. Once inside however, she stole a wallet, bank card and cash. It also transpired that she had stolen cash from the same address a week earlier.
Norton was arrested and subsequently charged with one count of robbery and three counts of theft from a dwelling.
After pleading guilty to the offences at Northampton Crown Court in August, Norton was sentenced at the same court last month (October 24) to three years and one month in prison.
Three restraining orders were also issued against her for each victim which will last until 2031.
Detective Constable Shannon Mellish from the Force’s Burglary Team said: “I am really pleased to see Jasmine Norton handed this custodial sentence as it demonstrates the seriousness with which the police and the courts take crimes such as this.
“Norton stole from vulnerable people, often those who trusted her. This is despicable behaviour, and I hope she spends her time in prison reflecting on her poor choices with a view to making better ones when she is released.
“In the Burglary Team, we are really passionate about putting people who steal behind bars, and we will continue working hard in order to do just that.”
