Wicksteed Park mascot honoured with lifetime achievement award
Mascot celebrated for 25 years of joy and entertainment
Wicky Bear, the beloved mascot of Wicksteed Park in Kettering, has been awarded a lifetime achievement plaque commemorating his 25 years of delighting visitors and spreading joy.
The award ceremony coincided with national Playday, a UK-wide celebration of play, offering a day of free activities.
Wicksteed Park combines a 281-acre estate with more than 25 rides and attractions for visitors.
Cllr Lauren Glanfield, Mayor of Kettering, presented the award, lauding Wicky Bear's contributions to the park and the community:
“I would like to thank Wicky Bear for all his hard work spreading joy in Kettering. He brings a sense of happiness to any occasion he attends.”
Wicky Bear, one of the UK’s longest-serving mascots, has charmed millions over the years with activities such as posing for photos, participating in events, and starring in his own shows at the park theatre.
Noteworthy highlights include raising funds with Pudsey for Children In Need and celebrating Kettering Town FC's FA Cup success in 2024.
Kelly Richardson, Wicksteed Park director, noted the mascot's enduring appeal:
“He’s had a few makeovers over the years, but one thing is undeniable: the joy he brings to our visitors. He is extremely happy with this award, and it is well deserved.”
